H) A
friendly rural community pub and real ale Mecca on the only village
green in Cornwall. Voted three times Cornwall CAMRA Pub of the Year and
in 2001 becoming national Pub of the Year, it had clocked up exactly
2000 different real ales by the landlord's 10th anniversary in charge,
and also runs an annual 'Mild Month' festival in May when up to 50
different mild ales from around the country are featured. The decor is
eclectic, and includes barometers, toby jugs and coffee mugs as well as
an astounding collection of pump clips and beer mats. The excellent food
is made from local produce, but it is wise to book ahead as meals are
popular. There are usually around six ever-varying beers, at least two
of them from Cornish breweries, whilst the cider also constantly changes
and often includes a lesser-known concoction or two. The house beer is
called King Buddha, in honour of the landlord. |
