Tucked away 50m off the road across a large car park (look behind the Tywarnhale), this fully-refurbished pub was re-opened towards the end of 2010 as a new branch of J D Wetherspoons.  Largely to the standard JDW format, it is long, linear and spacious with a marble-top bar, and as well as the usual two or three standard beers offered by that chain, it also provides a varying choice of guest brews, often from Cornish micro-breweries. Families are welcome; the pub opens at 0700 daily for breakfast.

Pirate's Gold, Buccaneer   (

Large, modern and tastefully decorated split-level bar, part of a beach-side hotel in a superb location. Beamed and carpeted throughout, two of the three levels are restaurant areas, and there is subtle wood partitioning further dividing the eating/drinking spaces. The outside drinking area is a patio overlooking the beach. Patronised mostly by locals out of season, the Seiners can become very busy with visitors during holiday periods. The beers may vary from time to time, but the ones listed are representative. Children are welcome in the lower level and restaurant.

A large TV screen dominates the bar. Regular live music Friday nights, with jazz Sunday lunchtimes; Wednesday is karaoke night. The car park is tiny, with only 4 spaces, but larger public car parks are nearby. The Skinner's beer is often varied.
