Cousin Jack (Tinners)
(H Named
after a naval flag ('Crew on Board - Ready to Sail') which flies
outside, this is a welcoming little family-run free house on the coastal
path, reached by a flight of steps at the end of the quay. It was named
runner up Cornwall CAMRA Pub of the Year in 2008. There are up to 4
guest ales in summer; the pub tends to support 'local' breweries, which
usually includes one from Devon. On 2 levels, it has wooden floors and
interesting hidden corners, while it boasts the only sea view from a pub
in town; the family room is upstairs. Eclectic décor includes work by
local artists, foreign breweriana and unusual souvenirs. Live music
Saturday night and Sunday lunchtimes. The pub is popular with visitors,
locals, fishermen and dogs - ask for a biscuit! The cider is from
Cornish Orchard. |

Doom Bar (H) This
14th century inn at the top of the town is converted from an old mill
mentioned in the Domesday Book, in an area very popular with tourists -
there is still a fine overshot waterwheel next to the pub. Inside, the inn
is comfortably divided into three distinct areas on separate levels. Up to
two guest beers may be available, and are usually Cornish. There is
regular live entertainment, and gazebos are provided to protect customers
from the sun!
Good food (all home-made and locally-sourced) includes special
dishes featuring locally caught fish; food is available all day, all year
round. The
buses to Looe, Liskeard and Plymouth turn round just across from the pub,
and in summer you can catch a tram down to the harbour. Children and pets
welcome. Accommodation is B&B or self-catering. |

inn, divided into several areas and furnished in rustic style with a long
corridor to the pool room and garden by the river. Tucked away over the
river from the tram stop, it is well worth seeking out, and is the only
free house in town. It has an extensive bar area offering at least four
real ales; these are usually all Cornish brews. The separate Boat House
restaurant provides good home-cooked food - fish is a speciality - which
is available daily 1200-1500 and 1800-2100. Families are welcome, as are
dogs. The accommodation is all en-suite. The house beer is called Old Mill
House Bitter. |
